Chris acts as Arbitrator or Independent Expert on rent review or lease renewal (through PACT) disputes on all types of retail properties in England and Wales.

Appointments are made either by the RICS on whose panel Chris has been a member for over 20 years, or by agreement between the parties. He has issued over 300 awards/determinations in that time, and offers a deep level of expertise in this field. Being part of a small firm means Chris can offer a completely independent view in this field, free from conflicts of interest.

Chris also receives appointments from the RICS in relation to disputes under the Pubs Code. More recently he became a panel member of the newly created RICS panel for commercial rental independent evaluations relating to disputes following the COVID-19 pandemic.

Property types vary from large food and non-food stores, to shop units in town centres, to restaurants and stores in Central London, as well as public houses under the Pubs Code

Chris is Chairman of Arbrix, which looks after the training and general interests of all property Arbitrators and Independent Experts across England and Wales. The organisation arranges several well attended daily conferences for their members each year, and Chris has spoken regularly at these events.

Chris is an ardent supporter of the PACT (Professional Arbitration on Court Terms) process to deal with lease renewal disputes. He is on an RICS working party which promotes the use of PACT across the property industry, and receives appointments to act as a PACT Arbitrator or Expert, usually privately from the parties concerned.

Chris also acts as Arbitrator on other types of property disputes such as consent for assignment and other less common types of dispute.
